Artist Statement

The inspiration for my art has always come from the world around me. I try to capture my personal reactions to the beauty and wonder of seascapes, landscapes, my African violets, orchids and small things of beauty we all pass by every day. My paintings are my relaxation and passion and they create a feeling of joy and inner peace for me.

When I am painting, I become part of the canvas and focus solely on being creative! I like the sense of space, openness, and strong light that comes from the window in my studio. I listen to good music and enjoy painting with my oils on stretched canvas. I always marvel at the simplicity between the contrast of texture, color, intensity, and shadow regardless of subject matter.

My oil paintings are displayed in many statewide collections and have won numerous awards in Florida exhibitions. In the past I have shown my paintings in many of the prestigious art shows in South Florida and was accepted into the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art Show several years in a row. When I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, I worked for several yacht brokerages and did many commissions for yacht brokers who gave paintings to buyers as a gift.

Facts of note: When I travel I like to take many photographs and use them as source material for future paintings. Florida, like no other place, offers an artist a treasure of scenes of beach and landscapes which are perfect for the creation of fine works of art. Boats on the calm water of the Gulf of Mexico and children playing on the many beaches will make a painting of Florida even more memorable when it is hanging in your home for continual enjoyment. I also enjoy painting my African violets and Orchid plants because of the varied colors and textures displayed.

* When I do Commission work, I work from photos provided by the client, (ie) vacation photos, family pet, boat portraits.

I am a long time member of the Boca Raton Art Guild, the Coral Springs Art Guild, and the Delray Art League.
